Solar Energy

Sun is considered as the ultimate source of energy. The light and heat from the sun can be utilized to produce energy to meet various energy requirements in the following ways:

i)    Solar heat is used to produce electricity by using solar reflectors and steam turbines.

ii)   Solar light is converted into electricity by using solar cells

iii)  Various daily use products using solar energy are: solar cookers, water heaters, dryers, furnaces etc.

Advantages:-

i)    Renewable

ii)   Eco-friendly and no fear of pollution

iii)  Operative maintenance is low

Disadvantages:-

i)    Low efficient

ii)   High initial cost

iii)  Solar power plants required more space

iv)  Unreliable , as it is intermittent in day nights and depending upon climate
